The History of Mokalbari Tea is splendid in as much as spectacular. Long way back in 1881, Kanoi’s traveled from Rajasthan to Dibrugarh in Assam in search of fortune. They started a grocery shop there. In course of time they became interested in tea plantation as a situational influence being surrounded by large number of tea gardens all around. In 1917 Surajmallji Kanoi bought 42 acres of land and started plantation by own hands.The year 1949 is landmark in the history of the onward march of today’s Kanoi Group. In that year Lalchand Kanoiji acquired the Mokalbari Tea Estate from Berry & Co. Since then the Kanoi family has nurtured this Estate into one of the finest tea producing estates in Assam. Today Mokalbari produces a very large quantity of Tippy Golden Teas, which forms the base of some of the top East Fression Blends. The family has discovered a special clone of orthodox teas – a secret which has passed from generation to generation with refinement and improvement
