With the end of the East India Company’s regime in India and the failure of the first armed uprising in 1857, for India’s freedom, a new era dawned in our country. The Founders of the Fergusson College had first started the New English School, Pune in 1880 and later established the Deccan Education Society (DES) in 1884. This was followed by the bold step to start the first ever privately managed college in India, on the 2nd January 1885, naming it as the Fergusson College.

The D.B.M.S. English School was started in 1965 to meet the educational needs of a growing city. The school belongs to the Dakshina Bharatha Mahila Samaj which has been registered under the Registration of Society Act 1960. A Managing Committee with representatives from the Samaj, parents, educationists, social workers and local firms run the school. The Board of Trustees look after the building construction. The curriculum of the school aims at the all round development of young girls and boys.
